Design project at the Munich University of Applied Sciences - Hyundai Obsidian

14. May 2025.

As part of a collaborative design project with Hyundai at the Munich University of Applied Science, transportation design student Dominik Anders unveiled his concept: the Obsidian. Inspired by the question "What could be next joyful experience for Hyundai drivers?",– moving beyond performance focused culture towards a more mature, sophisticated audience.

The Obsidian blends pure driving passion with a new standard of luxury and style. The design is guided by the principles of minimalism and a dynamic monolith, featuring clean lines, reduced complexity, and bold proportions. Innovative highlights include active aerodynamic elements and distinctive pixel lighting.

Positioned as a five-door sports car with an emphasis on spaciousness, the Obsidian represents a new generation of performance vehicles – emotional, modern, and confident.

Hyundai Obsidian – the evolution of high performance vehicles

Eduardo Ramirez opened the collaboration project at the University of Applied Science Munich at the faculty of design with a key question: "What’s could be the next enriching experience for Hyundai drivers?"

Story Concept:

The Transportation Design HM Student Team lead by Prof. Dr. Othmar Wickenheiser believes that there is a space for new driving emotions but it will evolve alongside its customers, addressing a more mature, sophisticated audience. The new design retains the spirited essence of automotive sportiness while embracing elegance and technological advancement.

This progression naturally brings a desire for greater luxury – and space is luxury. Therefore, the Obsidian is positioned as a five-door sports car designed for everyday driving on paved roads.
